Hello my Honeys!
Welcome to the first day of the 2019 Diamine Inkvent Calendar! Well, sort of—I accidentally opened Day 2’s door first, but here we are, starting with Winter Miracle. Let’s dive in.
We recently purchased the Inkvent Calendar 2019. I know that it is 2024.. however, this was a bargain at the Melbourne Pen Show that we recently attended so I wanted to have a try of these Diamines inks (and I guess it would be a good indication if the inks hold up 5 years later.)
Today’s Colour: Winter Miracle
Winter Miracle is a deep purple ink with a subtle shimmer that adds a touch of mystery. Depending on how well it’s mixed and the shimmer balance in your bottle, the effect can range from understated elegance to a little sparkle party on the page. My bottle leaned more toward elegance, with the shimmer making a quiet appearance in broader strokes.
Testing the Ink
For this test, I used three different nibs to showcase Winter Miracle’s character:
- Dominant Industry Ink Muddler (glass nib): It’s great for precision, but shimmer inks like this don’t always shine through well with such fine lines. Also, it’s not my favourite for writing—it feels a bit scratchy. The muddler’s other end, however, is excellent for creating swatches to show off the full colour.
- Sailor Hocoro (medium nib): This was the standout for me. The thicker nib gave the ink room to breathe, bringing out its richness and shimmer while gliding smoothly across the page.
- Kakimori brass nib: A big, bold nib that lays down a generous line. It made the darker tones pop and gave the shimmer a solid presence, depending on how I angled the pen.
Winter Miracle behaved beautifully across all three nibs, though shimmer inks like this need a bit of TLC. Remember, with shimmer inks, it’s best to slowly turn the ink bottle (or pen, if the ink is in the pen chamber or converter) to mix it up. Shaking is a big no-no in the ink community!
About the Video
Capturing shimmer on camera is no easy feat, and while Winter Miracle looked great on the page, it’s even better in person. I hope you enjoy seeing how it writes, even if the camera missed some of its sparkle.
Wrapping It Up
Thanks for tuning in, Honeys! Apologies again for the Day 1/Day 2 mixup—I’ll have it sorted by tomorrow. In the meantime, if you want to see more writing and swatching, check out the link below:
