G’day, Honeys!

Welcome to Day 2 of the Diamine Inkvent Calendar, or at least it should be Day 2! I made a little mix-up in the video and filmed what was supposed to be Day 1 instead. So, here we are with Gold Star! Let’s get into it.

Today’s Colour: Gold Star

Gold Star is a deep, rich yellow that really reminds me of the star that sits atop the Christmas tree, shining bright. This one also has a metallic shimmer that adds a bit of sparkle to the mix. However, the shimmer doesn’t pop as much with the Dominant Industry Ink Muddler (glass nib)—it’s a bit scratchy, and the shimmer gets lost in the fine line. But, it’s much more noticeable with the other pens.

As always, keep in mind that shimmer inks need a bit of a turn to mix them properly—please don’t shake! Slowly turn your bottle or pen to ensure the shimmer isn’t left behind at the bottom.

Testing the Ink

I used three different nibs again to show off how Gold Star behaves:

  • Dominant Industry Ink Muddler (glass nib): The shimmer is there, but it’s subtle and not as prominent due to the scratchiness of the nib. It’s fine for detail but doesn’t give you the full shimmer experience.
  • Sailor Hocoro (medium nib): This nib gives the ink a lot more room to show off. The shimmer really comes to life with the medium nib, and the colour appears much smoother and more vibrant.
  • Kakimori brass nib: Another solid performer here. The larger nib allows for broader strokes and lets the ink’s metallic sheen shine through beautifully.

While the shimmer is visible in real life, it’s a bit tricky to capture on camera (my lighting situation isn’t helping, but we’re upgrading soon, so bear with us, Honeys!). The metallic shine is best seen with the larger nibs, which lay down more ink and really help the ink to pop.

About the Ink

Gold Star is one of the 15g sample size pots (which is about 0.53 ounces for our non-metric friends). As with all shimmer inks, the results can vary based on your bottle and how you mix it, so don’t be surprised if your experience is a little different.

Wrapping It Up

Thanks for tuning in, Honeys! I’m still learning the ropes of this Inkvent journey, so I appreciate your patience as we work out the kinks (and get new lights!). If you’d like to see more of the ink in action, check out the video below:

Cheers for watching, and remember to slowly turn your inks and enjoy the shimmer—see you for Day 3!
