G’day, Honeys!

It’s Day 3 of the Diamine Inkvent Calendar, and for the first time, I’ve managed to get the order right! Maybe it’s fitting that this day’s ink is called Mulled Wine—a name that implies a cosy, festive drink to celebrate finally getting my act together. Or maybe it’s a reminder that wine tends to keep me on my toes—or occasionally serve as my crutch! Let’s pour this burgundy beauty onto the page.

Today’s Colour: Mulled Wine (standard ink)

Mulled Wine is a rich burgundy ink that leans towards deep, velvety reds. It’s classy, warm, and feels like a well-aged bottle of something special. This colour works well with finer nibs but really comes alive with broader strokes. The complexity of the burgundy hue shows up more vibrantly when the ink has a chance to spread.

Testing the Ink

Here’s how it fared with our lineup of nibs:

  • Dominant Industry Ink Muddler (glass nib): Surprisingly, this nib worked quite well for Mulled Wine. The ink’s richness comes through even with the scratchy nature of the glass nib. However, as always, this isn’t my favourite for writing—it’s more for those detailed, finer touches.
  • Sailor Hocoro (medium nib): This is where the ink starts to shine. The Sailor Hocoro lays down a smooth, thick line, allowing the burgundy tones to deepen and giving the ink a velvety texture on the page.
  • Kakimori brass nib: My personal favourite here. The Kakimori’s broader lines not only bring out the richness of Mulled Wine but also allow for a nice gradient effect where the ink pools slightly. It’s like letting the wine breathe—it just gets better.

Wrapping It Up

I’ve got to say, Mulled Wine is a winner. It’s one of those inks that feels like it belongs in both a fine letter and a bold headline—versatile and stunning in equal measure. Finally nailing the correct day helps me enjoy it even more, though the irony of wine being the theme isn’t lost on me.

As always, thanks for sticking with me, Honeys. If you want to see more of Mulled Wine in action, check out the video link below, let us know if the addition of music makes this a nicer video to watch too! (Thank you Udio for your AI music generation!). And remember, as this isn’t a shimmer or metallic ink, so you can shake it up to keep it evenly mixed. Cheers!

Catch you tomorrow for Day 4—let’s keep this streak going!
