G’day, Honeys!

Day 4 of the Diamine Inkvent Calendar brings us Poinsettia, a rich, deep red that screams holiday spirit. This ink perfectly captures the colour of the festive plant it’s named after—a bold and lustrous red that feels both elegant and cheerful.

I’ll admit, this one got me a bit excited. It’s the kind of red that could easily become a staple in anyone’s ink collection. Let’s see how it performed with my trusty nib lineup!

Today’s Colour: Poinsettia

Poinsettia’s deep red tone is vibrant and saturated without being overbearing. It’s smooth, consistent, and brings a classy, traditional feel to your writing. While there’s no shimmer or sparkle here, the richness of the colour more than makes up for it.

Testing the Ink

  • Dominant Industry Ink Muddler (glass nib): Surprisingly, Poinsettia shines even with this nib. The fine, scratchy strokes don’t detract from the ink’s boldness, and the lustrous red still looks clean and vibrant.
  • Sailor Hocoro (medium nib): This is where the ink really sings. The medium nib gives the red a full-bodied appearance, with smooth lines and even saturation. It’s bold without being blotchy—a great match for Poinsettia.
  • Kakimori brass nib: While I’m usually a Kakimori fanboy, this one was a little blotchy. I might have left the nib on the page too long, causing some pooling. The red is still stunning, but note to self: don’t linger too long next time!

Wrapping It Up

Poinsettia is one of those reds you’ll want to keep in rotation long after the holidays are over. It’s vibrant, versatile, and works beautifully across all nibs (even if I fumbled a bit with the Kakimori). If you’re looking for a red that embodies the holiday season, this is it.

Thanks for joining me on this festive ride, Honeys! Check out the video below to see Poinsettia in action, and don’t forget to treat your inks gently—turn, don’t shake!

Catch you tomorrow for Day 5—hopefully with less blotchy writing! Cheers!
