G’day, Honeys!
We’re on Day 7 of the Diamine Inkvent Calendar, and today’s ink is Gingerbread. After yesterday’s Nutcracker, this one feels like it’s hit closer to home. It’s a warm, rich brown, perfectly named after the festive treat. Comparing it to Nutcracker, Gingerbread leans more golden-brown, while Nutcracker seems almost reddish by comparison.
Honestly, Gingerbread is doing a better job of owning its colour. It’s got personality, consistency, and works well across the nibs. Let’s dive into today’s test!
Today’s Colour: Gingerbread
Gingerbread captures the essence of its namesake—a toasty, warm brown that doesn’t try to be anything else. Unlike Nutcracker, which felt a bit flat, this one has more life. Depending on how much ink you lay down, the colour deepens, giving it a dynamic range that’s really impressive.
Testing the Ink
- Dominant Industry Ink Muddler (glass nib): The glass nib gives a clean, lighter look to Gingerbread. It’s smooth, and the ink behaves well, showing off its lighter golden tones.
- Sailor Hocoro (medium nib): With the medium nib, the brown becomes more saturated, revealing its warmth and richness. This is where Gingerbread really starts to shine.
- Kakimori brass nib: As always, the Kakimori lays it on thick. The darker, richer tones come through beautifully here, giving Gingerbread an almost chocolatey look when fully saturated. It’s a great match for those who like their inks bold and dramatic.
Two Browns in a Row?
I’ll admit, getting two browns back-to-back is a bit of a curveball. That said, Gingerbread feels more cohesive and engaging compared to Nutcracker. The dynamic range of colour is noticeable with this ink, especially with the thicker nibs—it truly runs the gamut from light golden brown to deep and dark.
Wrapping It Up
Gingerbread feels like a win for brown ink fans. It’s festive, versatile, and far more engaging than yesterday’s Nutcracker. While I’m no colour expert, this ink makes me want to pull out some cookies, pour a cuppa, and keep writing.
As always, there’s a video below to see Gingerbread in action. Thanks for sticking with me, Honeys—catch you tomorrow for Day 8!
Cheers, and don’t forget to treat yourself to a bit of gingerbread if you’ve got it handy!
