Hey there, Honeys!

It’s Day 9 of the Diamine Inkvent Calendar, and today’s ink is Midnight Sheen. First impressions? A dark, moody blue that had me scratching my head for a moment—I genuinely thought it was purple until I got it under better light. Midnight Sheen isn’t flashy, but let’s dive in to see how it fares.

Today’s Colour: Midnight Sheen

This ink is a deep, dark blue that leans into the classic side of the spectrum. It’s the kind of blue you’d expect from a trusty ballpoint pen, but with a touch more elegance. If you’re a fan of reliable, understated colours, this one might be for you.

Testing the Ink

  • Dominant Industry Ink Muddler (glass nib): Midnight Sheen came across a bit lighter here, leaning more into its subtle side. Not bad, but it didn’t quite show the depth I was hoping for.
  • Sailor Hocoro (medium nib): Things improved slightly with the medium nib, where the darker tones started to come through. The writing was smooth, but the colour still felt a bit muted.
  • Kakimori brass nib: As expected, the Kakimori delivered the best results. The nib laid down a richer, more saturated line, showcasing Midnight Sheen at its deepest.

Final Thoughts

Midnight Sheen is a bit of a mystery ink—quiet and unassuming, with a classic vibe. It’s not the showstopper of the calendar so far, but it’s dependable. If you’re into dark blues that play it safe, this one’s right up your alley. Personally, I’d say it’s solid but not standout.
