Hey Honeys!

Day 12 of the Diamine Inkvent Calendar brings us Festive Cheer, a colour that left me with more questions than holiday spirit. It’s supposed to be a shimmer ink, but this bottle was suspiciously shimmer-free, even though it was fresh out of the pack. Did the sparkle get lost in transit, or is it playing hide and seek? Either way, let’s dive into this ink that sits somewhere between purple and blue, yet manages to feel a bit… familiar.

Today’s Colour: Festive Cheer

Initially, I thought it was another purple (Diamine and their purples, right?). But as it dried, the colour leaned into a dark blue, living somewhere in the tonal middle ground between Midnight Sheen and Purple Bow from earlier in the calendar. Without a side-by-side comparison, you might mistake it for either, which makes it a bit underwhelming in the uniqueness department.

Testing the Ink

  • Dominant Industry Ink Muddler (glass nib): Surprisingly, this was the standout performer today. The glass nib held onto the ink better, offering more consistent strokes despite the washed-out look of the colour.
  • Sailor Hocoro (medium nib): Normally a trusty favourite, it struggled here. The ink’s thin application made me dip multiple times just to complete my small test words.
  • Kakimori brass nib: Even with its usual thick, juicy lines, the ink felt flat. All three nibs seemed to deliver the same apparent thickness, which is odd and a little disappointing for such a rich-titled colour.

Final Thoughts

Festive Cheer is a decent dark blue, but it’s not bringing much festive joy to the table. Without shimmer or a distinct personality, it’s more of a supporting act than a headliner. While it doesn’t stand out as a must-have, it might still find a place for those who enjoy subtle, understated inks.

Thanks for sticking with me, Honeys! Maybe tomorrow’s ink will bring us the sparkle we were hoping for today. Check out the link below for a closer look at this not-so-shimmery Festive Cheer.

Cheers,
Your ink adventurer!
