We’ve made it to Day 13, and today’s ink has a name that jingles with joy—Ho Ho Ho! True to its festive moniker, it’s a cheerful red that stands out on its own. While not the rich Coca-Cola Santa red you might expect, it still delivers a vibrant and merry hue perfect for holiday cheer.

Today’s Colour: Ho Ho Ho

This one’s an intriguing red. On the page, it’s vibrant and festive without being too intense, a well-balanced red that feels approachable. However, when I rinsed my nibs, the water turned orange—a curious contrast that doesn’t show up much in the writing itself.

While it’s a standard ink without shimmer or metallic effects, it doesn’t feel like it’s missing anything. It’s bold, it’s bright, and it’s here to spread the holiday spirit.

Testing the Ink

• Dominant Industry Ink Muddler (glass nib): Clean and crisp, the glass nib handled this ink beautifully, showing off its bright tone without any issues.
• Sailor Hocoro (medium nib): Smooth as butter. The ink flowed consistently and gave a vibrant, even colour throughout the strokes.
• Kakimori brass nib: This thicker nib added depth to the colour, making the red feel richer and more pronounced, perfect for those bold holiday headings.

Fun Fact: Santa’s Coca-Cola Red

If you’re wondering why Santa’s suit is red, it’s thanks to Coca-Cola! Back in the day, he was depicted in various colours, including shades of brown. Coca-Cola’s iconic advertising in the 1930s gave us the jolly red suit we all associate with him today. Who knew ink swatches would lead us down a trivia rabbit hole?

Final Thoughts

Ho Ho Ho is a delightful red that’s cheerful without being overbearing. It’s the kind of ink you could use year-round but shines particularly bright during the holidays. Whether it’s for cards, letters, or just testing nibs for fun (like me), this is a red worth dipping into.
